This is my plein air painting of Kynance Cove, from above.

Kynance Cove is positioned east of Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England. It is situated on the Lizard peninsula approximately two miles north of Lizard Point, the most Southerly part of England.

Instead of going stright down to the beach, this time I positioned my easel on the cliff edge, high up above, looking out.

I went for a more graphic approach for this painting, and this time I had to face my easel away from the sun, and the area I wanted to paint, which meant that I had to constantly look over my right shoulder to study the forms and colours of the area I wanted to paint, and turn back to my easel to record what I saw.

I decided to go for this area whch included part of the beach, and a cluster of small rocks, together in the seas as the focal point.

This painting would look great in any household, a graphic and impressionistic painting study of one of Cornwall’s best cove areas.

I painted this in watercolour & gouache on Cold Pressed, 300gsm heavyweight watercolour paper. 5.9” x 8.3”
