Luxembourg City at Twilight - Plein Air Painting
Painting Luxembourg City at twilight
This is my Part 2 of painting in Luxembourg city, with a bit of story behind it…
After exploring Luxembourg City's old town and city center during the day, I returned to Chemin de la Corniche, known as "the most beautiful balcony in Europe."
At twilight, the warm glow of interior lights contrasted beautifully with the cool blues and indigos of the night sky. I discovered a building next to a church with a stunning cherry blossom tree beside it and immediately knew I wanted to paint it.
With limited time, I settled on a pencil sketch on location and took my study back to England to paint from a photo. At home, I used my new, smaller watercolour kit, additional watercolour paints, and white gouache.
I began with the sky and worked my way around the painting until it was finished.
